I'm assuming 50 Licks is trying to be direct competition to Salt and Straw with their more creative flavor combos - I like this a lot because I hate the long lines at Salt & Straw. There was no line for 50 Licks. Lack of Indoor Seating: I've read several reviews to try their Mango Sticky Rice ice cream, so I thought I'd give them a try while I was in the neighborhood on a cold and quite rainy Saturday. I was a bit surprised they still don't allow indoor seating, which I would've been more upset about had it not been for a large tented area right next to Crema coffee nearby as it was pouring rain out. If they're not going to have indoor seating, I would've liked signage pointing to this tent area. Wasteful bowl and spoon: Anywho I asked for my ice cream in a cone I thought to reduce the waste, and oddly I was served the cone upside down in a bowl with a spoon still. Since this was my first time visiting, I didn't know this was their usual way of presenting & next time I'll ask for the cone without the bowl & spoon. Coconut Flavor dominates in Mango Sticky Rice: Now for the flavor - the ice cream, at least the batch I tried, I thought had a "flavor washout" happening with the added coconut to the mango rice. I like coconut, but the strong coconut flavor completely overpowered the more gentle flavors of mango and rice. So I tasted predominantly coconut. My suggestion is to leave the coconut out & let the mango and rice shine alone.... or significantly up the mango and rice flavor amounts. Waffle Cone Stands Out: The winner of the experience I thought was the waffle cone - it's clearly house made & tasted like it had sugar baked into it... similar to a Belgian style waffle. This stood out to me as unique and quite tasty. Although I'd like the ice cream to shine just as much as the cone. So would I be back? Yes, I'd certainly be willing to try them again. Hopefully my next flavor will shine as much or more than the waffle cone.
I don't care about their ice cream. This rating has to do with their utter lack of concern for people that live in the neighborhood. Their customers often are blocking foot traffic, so you have to walk into traffic. I've almost been hit at least a half dozen times at this intersection, and their lack of safety is going to cause a serious accident. I'd hope they'd take this seriously, but they care more about coddling to their entitled patrons with signs like this.
I love being able to get a dairy free shake with Oat Milk. It's delicious and the line wasn't long when I got there. The location is closed for dine in and I was able to enjoy it while walking back to the car. I can't wait for dine in to be available as an option; I do understand and respect them trying to keep their employees and customers safe with their procedures.
It was ok, couldnt try any of the flavors before hand so just picked a "safe" one and moved on. Nothing to rave about.
