Thank you for your review. We had a couple of different people call, including you and others you said are family members who called and wanted to buy one of our cars. No questions or interest was shown or asked about the car in question over the phone, neither had anybody viewed the vehicle. Nonetheless, you/family wanted the full transaction in excess of 10,000 to take place over the phone. When we kindly explained that we would not be able to do this as the sum was too high for an over the phone payment, and that we would need the card and cardholder present, you wanted us to allow somebody else to come to the office and use what you said was your card to buy the car. We once again explained that we had been in contact with the card company as part of our due diligence, and they said that it is against their guidelines for somebody else to use the cardholders card, and the cardholder would need to be present to make the payment and for the sum to be insured for all parties. With all due respect, Northern Motor Houses Professional Ethics and Conducts, as well as the Financial Conducts Authority Regulations (FCA) a body we are regulated by, as well as your own Card Company, do not permit for a transaction like this to take place, as it is classed as a potential fraudulent transaction. If we were an organisation that did not carry out due diligence or have any care for our customers and members of the public, we would happily take the money, however, we do not want to be a part of a possible fraudulent transaction, and as you can understand, if it was somebody else using the card fraudulently, and it not being the cardholder themselves purchasing the car, they would not be happy about us allowing a fraudulent transaction to have taken place using their card without their knowledge and permission, and they would be well within their rights to be upset and angry about this, so we do not want to ever put anybody in this position if we can help it. We are by no means saying on this occasion it is definitely a fraudulent transaction, however, we would need you to be present to satisfy the checks required for the transaction to take place, however, you were unhappy and not willing to follow the process we have been advised to carry out. We were more than happy for you to come and use your card to purchase the vehicle, however there were several different reasons at different points given why you cannot attend, including one where you said that you were in America. However, when we called you back to discuss the situation and feedback from your card company about how you would need to be present for the transaction, we got through to you on a British number, and you were in fact in England, not America, so essentially could attend yourself in person, as required by your card company. When we mentioned this, you said you were going to leave us a bad review and slammed the phone down. On this occasion the information provided to us did not add up or make sense, and guidance from the FCA, advice from your card company and due diligence on our part is the reason why we cannot follow through with the transaction at this moment in time. If you want to attend in person yourself, with all the relevant IDs and information required to satisfy the financial process, we are more than happy to do business with you on this occasion and/or next time. I hope this has helped better understand the reason why we could not allow a possible fraudulent transaction to take place, and hope it also gives continuous peace of mind to our past, current and prospective customers on our due diligence and professional ethics and conducts (and that we are not just here to make money as a business, but genuinely care about our customers, members of the public, and will support wherever possible to try and help prevent and minimise any potential fraud against them and their financial records).
