This new building is surprisingly difficult to find. The building and grounds are brand new and very comfortable once you're inside. However, remember that this is after all a government building run by employees who are infamous for not caring and for bullying people. The driver's license renewal process was somehow more complicated and needlessly onorous than at other Alabama Department of Public Safety type locations. Expect to take a number even if you're the only person there besides the employees.
This brand new Shelby County Services Building is located at the former 'Blackwatch Sports Complex' (aka 'Sports Blast 280'). Access to/from is super easy off Hwy 41 (Dunnavant Valley Road). Opened November 16, 2021, this location combines three separate service buildings (the Shelby License Office in Inverness Corners, the Shelby County Sheriffs Office Substation in Greystone and the Water Services billing office in Westover) into one. The driveup window for license renewal and water bill payments is a real convenience. A future kiosk (ATM style machine) for 24 hr tag renewal is in the works. It's great to see such a beautiful and quality service brought to the Hwy 280 corridor to support the growth!
Extremely helpful customer service. I had an out of state car purchase that required an in state registration and new tag. The dealership hired a third party to handle the registration process and it seemed more complicated than it should have been. The office was patient and extremely helpful with resolving the issues for me.
