The Security Guards are The Worst human Beings Out There!! We Finished a Few Hour Hike by The Hotel & The Security Guards wouldn't let our Bus come to pick us up so we had to Walk in The Dark for another *3 Miles* to Reach our Bus!
We stayed at Mohonk last weekend, and had a very disappointing experience and it did not live up to the very high price tag ($1200 night). It seems like the hotel is justifying their pricing by living off of its heritage and name, but the rooms or service are not at a 5 star level. Hotel/rooms: The rooms and hotel are out dated and need a serious renovation. Overall things looked shabby and worn. We also saw a chipmunk in the lounge. He was coming in and out of a hole in between the wall and floorboard. Food: The main dining hall felt like a college dining hall or camp. It was massive and not classy at all. The food was horrendous. We ordered the fish, and they over cooked it to the point of being inedible. It looked like it had been sitting under the broiler for quite some time. When we said something to our server, she didnt ask us what we wanted, she just brought us another fish that was also inedible and over cooked. Rooms: We booked a lake side view with a fireplace. They put us in a room facing the valet area (not Lake side) and told us they didnt have any Lake view rooms left, so we didnt get the room we wanted. At night, we used the fireplace, and the flume was clogged, so as soon as we used the fireplace, our entire room filled with smoke, and set off the fire alarm. We couldnt even breathe, and everything including ourselves smelled like a campfire. We asked to be moved to another room, and they moved us to a lake side view but downgraded our room. We had to change rooms at 11:30 at night. We complained and the manager gave us a 20% discount which was appreciated, but it still didnt make up for the poor experience. Grounds: the grounds are very pretty. There are several hiking trails, and the hotel is situated on a lake, so they had a lot of water activities (canoe, paddle board, row boats) included in the price, which was nice. Overall experience: The hotel needs to be updated, the fireplace was clogged and not working properly, and the service was sub-par. We had multiple interactions with the front desk giving us wrong information regarding our room and stay. This hotel is not a romantic getaway for couples. It was loaded with screaming children and demanding families. We were hoping for a quiet getaway from the city, and were very disappointed. For the price, we expected a 5 star experience, and Mohonk did not live up to a 5 star experience.
Magical place! Love that there are no TV's for a pure escape. Perhaps 1 Tv in the bar would be cool for maybe any sports games that might be on though. A few suggestions for overnight guests: Offer the ability to use the mineral spa as a service for those who would like to experience it but without having to interact with anyone directly for a "service". Increase the cleanliness at food service stations by having more staff "serve" food. Too many people hovering over buffet items, touching, coughing and being inconsiderate of others that have yet to come. Do away with the "kitchen experience", that is just a boring excuse for a buffet where food items appear to sit longer than they should for those with later reservations. Items like shrimp should be on ice, salads already mixed with particular dressings should be on ice, salmon as well. Also for menu service, some better & larger portion Vegan options would be great for those guests. Lastly, offering the ability to select spa services online or any other activities like horse back riding, etc would be ideal! Will be back but these food corrections would take this place to the next level and be near perfection! These are only to help. I truly love this place!

A Beautiful, Relaxing Experience. My visit was just for the day to do some rock climbing with #Alpineendeavors, which included access to the Mohonk Mountain House grounds. The views from the Mountain House of the lake are beautiful and with over 40,000 acres, there is so much to do and I definitely plan on returning.
Very expensive for an average experience. The servers were unenthusiastic and zombie-like. Sort of like the hotel in "The Shining."
