DO NOT USE! FURTHER DAMAGED OUR CAR! We were foolish and desperate enough to contact Raphael during the most recent snow storm in D.C. when our car started running hot. After getting the code read at auto zone, we thought we needed a new coolant temperature sensor. Raphael did indeed pick up the part for us and arrived to us about 2.5 hours later in the auto zone parking lot. After replacing the part, the car still did not work. Raphael toyed around under the hood and suggested we needed a new thermostat. We went inside auto zone and bought a new one. Raphael installed this part and still did not work. At this point, about 1 hour and 45 minutes into working, Raphael noticed we were 'missing a belt' and told us to go inside auto zone and ask for a second serpentine belt. We brought the belt out only to be told by Raphael it was too big, and to go get a smaller one. When we asked him what the name of the belt was, he couldn't tell us. Instead he had me take a video of him working under the hood so I could point out to the staff at auto zone (who were working inside 30 feet away) what we needed. After buying and exchanging 4 different sized belts and being told they were all too big, we asked Raphael if he could come talk to staff inside auto zone to properly communicate what we needed. Raphael ignored our request. Finally the manager of auto zone got fed up and went outside to see what Raphael was talking about, and finally brought him inside. At this point, we witnessed Raphael on his phone googling what our problem could be and watching YouTube videos on how to fix it or diagnose. He then told us (2.5 hours in) that our problem was the water pump -- it had seized up and this job was too big for him. I paid Raphael for the appreciation of his time and effort. The next day, we brought the car to a AAA partnered garage who looked at the car for 1 minute and said our problem was definitely the water pump, and that anyone who knew what they were doing should have noticed this problem within 30 seconds after looking under the hood. After paying to get this fixed, we ran into ANOTHER problem CREATED by Raphael. The car would not start unless in neutral and could not shift into drive. This was because when Raphael had us buy the thermostat for him to install, he spilled coolant all over our transmission speed sensor instead of disposing of it properly. This completely damaged it and cost almost $100 to have it replaced, on top of the $500 we spent repairing the water pump. When I confronted Raphael about how I felt he took advantage of us and requested a refund for everything except the initial part, I was met with excuses and then a drop off in a communication. I explained I would've been happy to pay him for his time had he been honest that this problem was over his head. He declined to comment on the fact he further damaged our car with the transmission speed sensor. In fact, the only time I was able to get him to respond to my inquiry was after explaining I would be sharing my experience in reviews. I think Raphael's experience includes battery replacement, starters, and maybe tire changes. Perhaps he can be considered proficient in those things. When it comes to anything else, he is negligent and destructive. I think he may know his way around the edges of a car, but not the fine details. If I was to have a surgeon operate on my heart, I would not want them slicing open my lungs inadvertently because they were only keen on cardiac anatomy. I would hope they had enough medical knowledge to preserve other parts of my body while fixing my heart. Raphael does not demonstrate this quality -- he not only could not figure out the problem with my car, he create a separate problem while playing the guessing game. The fact that I hired someone who had to be watching youtube videos and googling 'what could be our cars problem' while working in their field of expertise disgusts me. Please, do not follow our footsteps. Find a reliable mechanic and wait if it is not an emergency. I do not wish this experience on anyone!
You have a 2019 vw car and i was booked and we are real mobile mechanics not lube techs so i refered you to jiffy lube but you said they wanted $100 so he insisted then i said we will do it for half jiffy lube price. Asked him the cost of oil change for my car, he told me $25 if I bring it to the shop or $40 if he comes to me the next day. Called him the next morning and he said he doesnt have time, and then changed the price $50 if I bring it to him. Completely unreliable.
Guy who showed up to do a pre-purchase inspection for me was just okay. I *think* he did a decent inspection but wasn't very talkative. I bought the vehicle and it's been fine so far. It was a bit painful trying to get all the information out of him. If I wasn't asking questions I feel like he wouldn't have offered up the info.
