I called to get a quote for 20-30 t-shirts, did not give any indication as to a time frame needed or what would even be on the shirt other than a 3-color business logo on the front and back. My boss asked me just to inquire if its acceptable to provide our own shirts or do we need to buy the shirts from the printers directly as part of the process...I fully expected the latter but told my boss I would ask anyway. The first two companies I called politely said they dont accept customer-provided shirts and then gave me quotes for their equivalent styles. Elmo said very special customers sometimes can provide their own, to which I said I understand, its fine to not do that as I was just curious. Then instead of quoting me other options he proceeded to tell me its like asking a restaurant to cook a steak I brought in, they make their money on the shirts, and if customers provide them they have to charge more for the other parts of the service...ok, I understand. Then he continued to say its Art Fair weekend (not relevant to my call) and I cant expect to have multi-colored designs printed on such short notice (they couldnt do it until August, which wouldve been fine, I never mentioned a time frame) and not even buy the shirts from them, which I never said was a dealbreaker, it literally was just a question. He then said he respectfully would need to just say no, he cant even give us a quote. It was a very strange phone call and clearly misinterpreted. Fortunately other local printing companies want the business and were willing to offer alternatives without the contention.
