TLDR; do not go to Irma I really dont even know where to begin, so Ill try to keep it basic- 1) Irma straight up doesnt not know how to follow directions. I showed her photos, to which she pushed my phone away. So then , I told her to cut my hair(low back length) to my SHOULDER. My hair is now to MY CHIN. My hair is so short, I cant even put it in a ponytail. 2)I told her diffuse with cold air, as thats pretty standard for curly hairshe refused, as it would make it frizzy. What? How are you a stylist with that theory? No Irma, thats not how it works. That should have been the first sign for me to leave. 3)She charged me full price (40$) after setting me in front of the HAIR COLOR PROCESSOR, for 5 mins, saying its better than diffusing while she chatted it up with others. Lazy, you are LAZY. 4)I walked out the salon with my hair wet; almost with out any products - I had to ask anti frizz stuff, to which she put on HARRYS POMADE. Yes, pomade in a tin can. On my 2b/c curls , or more specifically my roots. Well, now I have a reason to buy more hats
Well nothing ever stays the same I guess. I used to come here monthly many years ago and it was a party. Moved away for some time and recently came back. I was happy to see that Astor Place was saved but disappointed when I got there. The barbers are still great. But if the man in the front is going to take 25 dollars(now 30) from me, he can take a second or two to be a little more pleasant. I know it is not just me because even the barbers comment on it. Still a great haircut but not worth the subway ride anymore. Too bad. Miss the days of the man sitting on the ladder with the megaphone calling out your name.
