North Star was one of the stupidest mistakes I have ever maid in my life . It's a waste of money all they have there is Mediocre classes demeaning teachers(voulenters) who look down on students who uses pay meant programs children are alowed to smoke key word children teens under 18 are allowed to smoke and parents are not notified I would rather send my kid to a private school that would cost the same amount of money a year then send my child to North Star

Northstar is an innovative and fantastic organization that probably saved my child's life. The ways in which public school teach are not appropriate for every child and my child was one who needed something different. We tried homeschooling but found it to be isolating. Social integration is so key for adolescents, that I searched for something to help with this. Northstar gave us social integration and so much more. And the group of adolescents who go there are the most loving and welcoming group! Because they are treated with respect, they demonstrate respect to each other and the to the adults. Creativity is encouraged. Independence and making choices (and experiences the consequences of these choices - good and bad) is also held with patience and care by all the staff. Each child is seen as a unique person with unique needs and the program is personally tailored to them. We are now starting on our third year and I couldn't imagine doing anything else. I have had possible job offers out of state that I have had to turn down because we have decided to commit to Northstar for my child. I cannot say enough about this place.

We have a very good public middle school, but the size and social drama was overwhelming for our child. A move to North Star made things much better. Our child is really comfortable in the small, warm atmosphere. Academically, it takes a couple months to settle in, but our child is finding her way to do work in all the basic areas she needs, and is exploring some interesting things (photography, improv,) that werent even on our radar screen before North Star. It was a good year, were looking forward to next year.

Our daughter was not thriving in school. I had heard about Northstar and thought it might be a good fit for her. It turned out be a great choice! She has made friends, she has had the opportunity to debate philosophy, learn psychology, and pursue her love of math. She actually wants to go to Northstar in the morning!
