Hi Alainya, We are very sorry that you werent happy with your color. But to be fair, according to my staffs recollection of this matter, you actually came back 2 weeks after your appointment to exchange a product that you thought might be the cause of your hair color changing? You mentioned it went from blonde to brassy. But could be all of the chlorine since you mentioned that you were swimming a bit? Chlorinated water and sun sound like the culprit. (Heck, even our good ole Florida tap water can turn you brassy.) Pregnancy can play a factor in hair color in some cases but we would never blame it all on your pregnancy. Pretty much all of our staff are mothers. That would be ridiculous to place the blame solely on your pregnancy. It is our policy to correct our mistakes without charge within a week. Its not only the salons name but the stylists name out there. We genuinely want you to be happy. My managers documented that you called us at nearly 6 weeks after your appointment to get it corrected. Six weeks is a fairly normal time span to have color redone, in any regular situation. Hair color does fade ( especially in Florida) in that amount of time. We recommend that clients return in 6-8 weeks to keep their color looking fresh. But not to be corrected free of charge. What we cant take responsibility for is what you do outside of our recommendations and lifestyle outside the shop. We DO, however, take responsibility that you werent fully satisfied. Turned my hair orange. Then when I sent in photos , the stylist and the owner never once offered to fix it. The owner blamed it on my pregnancy hormones. Its awful and a shame to see any salon treat their customers like this. Crappy dye job that I didnt even ask for. I have NEVER complained about my hair and Have NEVER had such a horrible experience to leave a bad review.

Hi Kaila, First and foremost, we apologize to the moon and back for this major inconvenience! Its completely out of character for us to close up so abruptly. We had a staff member who had a brush with Covid and we take no chances with the health of our guests or staff. It was a very quick decision in order to keep everyone safe, and as far as we can tell all appointments were contacted. That being said, it seems like we dropped the ball with getting in touch with you. We do hope you can forgive us for this terrible misstep. Scheduled a hair styling appointment for a wedding. Showed up 10 minutes before my appointment. There were no cars in the parking lot, no one had answered the phone when I called and the sign on their door said Closed. I was unable to have my hair done for the wedding I was attending due to nobody being available at my appointment time. Although I had received a phone call earlier that week confirming the appt, I drove there just to find out they were closed. I received no call informing me of this and was hugely disappointed. Very unprofessional. Will not follow up for future services and do not recommend.

Going to get my hair done at Philosophie is like a vacation in paradise away from the clamor of everyday life. As soon as I walk in, I'm transported by the amazing scents and fresh beauty of the space. The service is simply top-notch. I have some of my absolute favorite hairstyles and colors created at Philosophie (by Misha!). If you're looking for a phenomenal hair styling experience, look no further!

Joyce, When reading this review, I would say that all of your complaints sound reasonable. Had they have been completely the case, we would have done our best to make up for our misgivings. After talking with my staff about the situation, what I discovered was that you asked for a discount before, during and after the service, gave my stylist grief about her wearing a mask, fussed about wearing a mask until finally decided to wear one, complained about the scent of the shampoo and then when she was finishing your hair- you abruptly told her Thats enough while she was applying product. Every stylist at this salon has at least 10 years under their belt. You asked my stylist how long she has been here, assuming she has never worked any place else. She told you how long she has lived in St. Augustine. Where she previously worked, you would have paid $170 for just the cut as she is from a much larger city and highly skilled. As for our Covid protocols-at this salon, we take safety seriously. We have children who arent old enough to be vaccinated and parents who are older and vulnerable. As a business owner, I will always protect my staff. Its common courtesy to follow the rules of anyones establishment- particularly in a world wide pandemic. We are a very warm and welcoming team. Its one of the hallmarks of our business. If you got the feeling you were a burden-it's because you made everyone (including the other staff members) very uncomfortable with your behavior. I really wanted to like this salon, as it is adorable, and located in a great location. I came in for a simple root touch up, blow dry, and trim, the experience was not pleasant and I felt like I was being a burden to the stylist. I was charged $170, which I would of normally been okay with but not for this level of experience. I was informed my stylist only had one year experience. When you are paying $170 for a simple cut, color, and blow dry you would expect an exceptional experience. My hair was still frizzy when I left the salon, and there was dye stain all over my face around my head. If you are going to run a high end salon, with high prices, than experienced stylists would be ideal. When I go get my hair done, I should leave feeling better than I came in, and I can't say that I did. I'm disappointed and will not be returning. The only thing pleasant was the receptionist, she was very friendly and the only one that made me feel welcome. Regarding the owner's response to my poor service at her establishment: I never once asked for ANY DISCOUNTS, this is a lie. As mentioned in my review, I would of gladly paid any amount for a good hair cut and service. I would of also became a regular customer as I go every 3 weeks. Regarding the shampoo smelling bad: I mentioned that I had allergies to certain shampoo smells and kindly asked which the salon uses. My salon that I used to go to used the same brand of products and there was one that made me sneeze. I don't think that is an unreasonable request considering it is a service you provide and the customer should be able to ask what shampoo you use. When I asked the Stylist how long she had been working at the salon she said, " 1 year" I then asked her where she worked previously as a stylist and she told me nowhere. This was her first job as a stylist. The communication was poor, and the attitude was just uncalled for. It is not law to wear a mask, not to mention the stylist were not wearing their masks the entire duration of my visit. There were children screaming and running around the establishment, not relaxing. I cannot believe that after sharing my experience with the owner, that this is her response. Nothing offered. How can you be okay with a stylist leaving hair dye on a client? I would of been willing to give this establishment a second try if their was a little more sympathy. Not interested anymore.
