Stephen .....you were talking to Nigel. Not Howard. Let me explain why we chose not to attend: During the conversation it became ever more obvious that the boat trailer you described was not suitable for the boat/engine combination. A two wheel trailer was not adequate for the weight. We therefore would not be prepared to fit the spare wheel and allow the vehicle to proceed .... with possibly catastrophic consequences. After 35 years in the recovery business we have seen too many dangerously inadequate, and badly maintained boat trailers. I imagine that in your tree felling business you would reserve the right to decline a job if you felt that it would be dangerous to undertake it. Please grant us the same right. We could have recovered the boat trailer back to base .... but due to groundworks being carried out here we did not have parking space available as we normally do. I believe Howard gave you the number for another local recovery operator. I trust that they were able to attend. Our apologies that, in this particular case, we declined the job. I do not believe the towing vehicle had broken down .... so, in reality, nobody was "stranded" at all. Inconvenienced yes ....but not "stranded". ALL boat owners should have their boat trailer assessed for it's suitability for the boat to be carried. The trailer should be professionally serviced annually, and a spare wheel and tools to change the wheel, carried at all times. We advise against young children being involved in long trips late at night when the condition of any vehicle, or trailer being towed, is in question. Trailers are not subject to the MOT test .... and cannot be assumed to be roadworthy unless carefully checked.

Last night phoned this company who advertise 24 hr emergency breakdown to come out to change a wheel on a trailer about 11pm and was given a multitude of excuses not to do it so I gave them an alternative for them to recover the trailer which again they refused And he put the phone down on me, leaving a family with a 9 yr old girl stranded on the side of the A34!. Very poor service, bad attitude from Howard!
