Our records show we refinished several rooms in the home February 2018.We were then asked to install wood in kitchen to join with existing floor. We removed tile and installed matching hardwood in the kitchen. The new wood was slightly higher because it had not been sanded like the existing floors. We did sand the wood flush with existing floor and completed the work. After a 30 day and 90 day follow up no issues were reported. After our 6 month follow up (October 2018) the customer complained of movement in the wood. I went to the home, tested the moisture content in several areas. I found that the areas that had not moved were at a normal moisture reading while the area experiencing cupping had a higher than normal reading. I suggested the customer dry out the area in the basement below the sub floor with a dehumidifier for 30 days and contact me if the issue does not go away. I have not heard from the customer since that meeting. I do understand the frustration of movement in a wood floor. Because of the drastic swings in moisture on the east coast, all homes must use humidifiers or dehumidifiers to control moisture when air becomes too dry or too moist, regardless of the cause. We do attach this information to every proposal we send. Update: It seems I was unclear as to what the customers issue was here. The kitchen does have a slight decent where it meets the existing floor headed towards the exterior wall. This is normal when following an existing subfloor. It would not be possible to raise the height of the kitchen subfloor unless the entire kitchen cabinets were removed. Otherwise adding plywood would have blocked in appliances and created other molding issues. We would have been happy to explain this had we been asked to make the floor exactly level across the span of the room. This is different than level/ flush at the point of connection, which is what was done.

I used Prestige in 2018 to refinish existing wood floors and to replace a tile floor on the kitchen with wood to match the adjoining rooms. When the materials were delivered we put the wood next to the family room floor and noticed it didnt quite meet up. We were assured it would be at the same level when installed. Once the floor was completed it did not match up and there is a hump in the wood between the new and existing floors. Prestige then told me it was due to humidity in the basement. First of all, what basement didnt have humidity. Second we have a dehumidifier running and there is no moisture problem. Shame on me for waiting so long to write this review but after the thousands spent and less than three years I should not have a clearly uneven floor. Update after owner's 11/2 response- the new floor is LOWER than the existing floor in the adjoining room. The floor is UNEVEN. Nails are popping up. You can see an unsightly hump between the two rooms. You can also see the uneven floor up against the baseboards. There is zero moisture issue- have had two dehumidifiers going almost two years- no moisture in the basement or anywhere else in the house. Sad that we paid $6950 for this (plus thousands more on refinishing floors in the other rooms).

Our job required refinishing old floors and installing new, refinishing stairs, handrails, custom color, and blending it all seamlessly. Oscar tirelessly swatched colors until we were confident and LOVED it. Bonus the house was so clean start to finish.
