I came because of the amazing reviews, my experience lacked luster from beginning to end. The Hot Sake was Luke warm, I asked to have it heated, the edamame was partially frozen, I just ate around it, the Dynamite Roll was deep fried on three sides and not in a tempura batter but something heavier, I had to pick the batter off my remaining 4 pieces. The wait staff NEVER checked on me or how the food was, just nodded their head, when the check came from another server, I said I wanted the fried banana, that was a mistake too. Even as I walked out I was not thanked or asked to come back, and believe me I won't be back. The worst food and service ever.
This is the second time Ive encounter a disrespectful waiter. This place is genuinely tip thirsty. I know all you rich people could give them $20 or even $40. But $10 or $15 isnt enough for those workers so they come and complain to me. I understand that the workers there are living off of the tip money and I respect that, but I am living off a tight budget too and I thought maybe treating myself out and then giving $10 as a tip would be okay. I guess not. Never coming here again.
This is the best sushi place in BA and I will fight anyone who contests that. Lowkey atmosphere, family-owned, delicious food. My kinda place. I'd recommend a dinner box (Box A is my go to), but I also love the seaweed salad and the volcano roll. From raw cuts to tempura rolls, the guys working that bar are craftsmen. Their work ethic is so strong that they closed for a couple days last year because the sushi chefs hadn't had a vacation in something like 8 years. That's commitment. I don't even care if you eat anything just go and throw money at their faces. I've been a regular since I was a child and, as long as I'm local, that isn't changing Edit Summer 2020: More recently I have noticed an unfortunate dip in quality. There's something about the Teriyaki Chicken dinner box (the earlier mentioned Box A) that really exemplifies this: the food doesn't feel quite as fresh anymore. I'm not certain if they've taken to pre-cooking meals, but the chicken doesn't fall apart the way that it used to. It used to have a serious melt to it. Now it often feels dry in the mouth, even when soaked with teriyaki. I'm getting to a point where I'd just much rather make it myself. The sides dishes suffer something similar that I can only imagine is from being pre-cooked and then refrigerated. Mind you, I've eaten in house since Covid and at my own house. It's not the takeaway doing in the flavor-- it's leaving the kitchen with this new so-so quality to it. I have to hope that it's something about training the next generation or maybe Covid related sacrifices that have lead to this; unfortunately, the restaurant is just not a five star anymore. With that said, I have to give them props for how responsibly they've operated since the 'Rona started making its rounds. However, the service is still as good as ever; same kid I've seen in there since I was a kid is still taking orders, polite as he ever was. I'd really like to see the business pull through, but I can't say their food is as special as it once was. Hoping they prove me wrong the next time I'm in there.
This is a comment about a single dish, not the entire restaurant* Will keep posting about other dishes in the future I had eel with rice about weeks ago. The flavor was ok, but the size was way too small for its expensive price.
