I always enjoy seeing exotic animals up close in a natural setting. Unfortunately, this was difficult to do at the Franklin Park Zoo today. Many animals were "missing" or "hiding" or otherwise difficult to see. Several exhibits were closed to the public for some unexplained reason. We were not given a map or tour guide to help us navigate the zoo and I found it a bit difficult to figure out where to go in an efficient way. I think we could have enjoyed our visit more with a little help from the zoo staff.

Smallish zoo, but decent sized enclosures for the animals. We went mid-week and it wasn't too busy. If you are visiting from out of town, it is easy enough to get to from downtown Boston using public transit. A lot of the enclosures seemed to need to be cleaned. The whole zoo had a stench of animal waste. The indoor exhibits were almost unbearable to walk through because of the smell. Maybe it was the time of day, but I've never noticed that at any of the many other zoos I've been to.

Not as many animals as I was expecting. The enclosures wre also a bit disappointing in terms of size and enrichment.
