Our in-laws live with us and they are now in their 70s. In order to help them, and avoid a fall, we hired Mar Home Repair/Martin Galiana to remove the tub in our guest bathroom, and replace with a lower shower pan and door. He quoted us $3050 - and that included supplies. On the first day, a Luis Carrillo showed up (subcontracted by Martin) to remove the tub, and drop the new shower pan - and when done, he bills us directly for $1850. We were confused, and made the HUGE MISTAKE of paying him. We later realized the pan that was just installed had two cracks in it, and we rightfully wanted it corrected. Both Martin and Luis gave us the runaround and indicated the the cracks are at the edge, and the new tile work would be placed over the cracks - sealing the pan. Mumbo jumbo. In the removal of the original tub, more wall tiles were removed than originally discussed. This created an extra expense, and guess who would need to cover this? Not Martin and Mar Home Repair. He wanted to now bill us an ADDITIONAL $3200 -- on top of the $1850 we had already paid. But it gets worse. After much back and forth, Martin said he didn't want to deal with us any longer, and he offered us a refund to take our business elsewhere. Remember this point. It is important. HE OFFERED US A REFUND. At this point, my bathroom is destroyed, and now I need to pivot and correct this myself because he can not complete the work within the financial parameters of the original quote and budget he proposed for the work. We started over. AND IT STILL GETS WORSE. The new tile person we contacted could not use the shower pan left by Martin and his homie, Luis Carrillo. Why? Because it was not leveled properly. We were informed it would need to be removed and reinstalled. In removing the pan, it was discovered that no concrete was placed under the pan. Because of this it would flex and buckle when walking on it, and we were told it would eventually break after regular use. Wonderful. Since it's damaged, not installed correctly, and not leveled, we decided to scrap it, and start over again. BUT IT GETS WORSE AGAIN! Once the new pan is installed, it is then discovered that Luis Carrillo - hired by Mar Home Repair, modified the plumbing from 2" diameter for a bath tub/shower -- to plumbing used in a sink! The problem now is that because of the modifications, the concrete under our shower will now need to be broken to correct the plumbing. At this point we are beyond ourselves, and immediately contact Martin to move forward with the refund he proposed. This loser said the check was in the mail, but it was only a partial refund of $1200 of the original $1850 we had already spent with him. Because of all the additional expenses his shoddy workmanship had created for us, we objected, and he still had the nads to tell us that this was fair, and he will not discuss this any more. He is not a man of his word, and other than painting, he will subcontract the work he and his company are commissioned to complete. He is a painter. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. Do yourself a favor, and please avoid him and his contracted work. You will be disappointed, and he will give you more excuses than a felon going to jail. If you want additional details of our experience with Martin Galiana, please reach out to me. I'll be happy to discuss in more detail.
