My experience with the performance of the MXL 770 microphone has been very, very disappointing. I had a major hum on my recordings and after a painstaking process of elimination, discovered the loud hum was being generated from this microphone. And you won't believe this...after contacting the company, Marshall Electronics, I was encouraged to fix the hum myself. I was sent a link to a blog post where a customer discovers an inherent defect in the manufacturing of this mic. The manufacturers used black paint inside the ring between the base barrel and the head which causes major grounding issues. In the blog, the customer is encouraged to take the mic apart and sand the black paint away in the areas where the paint should not be. Amazing! Not only is Marshall Electronics admitting this product is defective, but they want the customer to assume the responsibility to fix it. That's not all. I paid to send it back and get it repaired only for it to come back to me in exactly the same defective shape it was in the first place. The mic still creates a huge hum. Unbelievable!
