I called to inquire the cost on a FCS fin box repair. I was told $50 over the phone and the was charged $70 upon arrival. I was told 1 week for the repair and that they would call when it was done. No one called me so I started calling the middle of the second week. I was told numerous times "its not done but no worries we always call right away once it is." I was also told the repair guy is probably surfing and they don't know when he will come back in. I then started calling on the third week and was told the same thing. I asked to speak to a manager. He got on the phone and said "our guy did not see it, but yeah its done". What the hell happened to them calling once it's done. I went down to pick it up and they told me cash only on repairs and that I owed $70.00. I handed him $80.00 (4 $20 bills) and he looks at me and says "do you need change". I am pretty sure he was asking for a $10.00 tip which I usually would have given under more professional treatment. I have heard good things about this place for years and was totally awestruck at how inefficient and unprofessional this place was. No invoices, no receipt. To make worse I watched the guy pull the allen bolt out of the fin boxes when I dropped it off and they never put them back. Just another local surf industry business using the old "hey man were just a bunch of surfers" thing as an excuse to be lazy and unprofessional.
Jim and the boyz are great. We've had many boards shaped though here, and the process is always seamless. The glassers are awesome and always do a terrific job. From complete shape or just a ding repair, all is killer. Hands down best board shop in town.
