I highly recommend Dr. Blackburn and Connection Café. In my early 30's, I began to experience pain in my shoulders, lower back, and IT bands. The pain was mild, but was increasing and impeding my training and workouts and, as I later discovered, even my work. I saw several doctors over the next few years, but was disappointed with each visit and was becoming increasingly frustrated. All treated the pain as separate, unrelated incidents and simply prescribed ibuprofen (or other various prescription and non-prescription drugs), ice, and/or rest. Some even recommended stopping working out altogether as I was getting older. The ibuprofen and rest helped temporarily, but I felt these doctors were missing something and that there was something more to getting better than just taking drugs and following the advice to ease off more rigorous exercise as I got older. A friend finally introduced me to deep tissue massages and eventually convinced me to see a chiropractor. I was reluctant at first. I had never seen a chiropractor and just did not understand the practice, nor what a chiropractor could do that a doctor could not. However, I decided to give it a try out of frustration from the doctors I had seen. It was one of the best pieces of advice I have received. Since then I have run my fastest mile time ever; completed a 50-mile ultra-marathon and several smaller marathons; and my first Half Ironman. At age 36, I feel like I am in the best shape of my life and am currently training for a full Ironman. (I have also switched to a diet high in fresh, organic, leafy vegetables and roots and nearly eliminated sugar and highly processed foods from my diet, which I believe has also helped immensely.) Dr. Blackburn has been one of the best chiropractors I have seen along this journey and has helped me tremendously over the last several months. He has been blessed as a doctor that can understand what others are experiencing and use his gifts to help and heal others. He understands the human body better than any doctor I have visited. Furthermore, he understands the body's innate ability to heal itself and how to help unlock this special healing power in each of us. While he works primarily with patients experiencing everyday pain, what I appreciate most is that he was (still is!) a star basketball player from CA that played in the NCAA at Texas A&M. He truly understands and appreciates the pains, strains, tweaks, and overuse and more severe injuries that athletes experience - and how to heal those injuries. Beyond this, Dr. Blackburn is just an incredibly kind and stand-up guy. He volunteers as a mentor to underprivileged youth at a local school, he worked to help infants in Peru, and is active in the local community. I hope you have an opportunity to meet this incredible care giver, healer, and person.
