I tried Pot Au Pho Mobile AL on a Saturday evening, after having had a bad experience one day earlier for Friday lunch at Pho 88 -- where a server admitted after ~40 min of waiting that the kitchen lost our ticket. I will say that Pot Au Pho was an improvement over Pho 88 -- but that being said, Pot Au Pho was itself not stellar. My friend and I arrived and stood at the "wait to be seated" sign. The first thing we were told by the serving staff was that they were out of bean sprouts -- it was almost like a cautionary of not to eat there. We decided to stay regardless. We were then told to seat ourselves -- there wasn't much choice in the matter, because about 50-60% of the tables had not been cleared from their previous diners, and were filled with dirty dishware and glassware; our options for non-occupied and non-dirty tables were quite few. We then placed our orders with the server and received our respective pho bowls -- it took longer than it should have for a pho restaurant, honestly. We couldn't dive in to our pho, because it took several additional moments to receive our garnish plate while the serving staff talked among themselves. We finally received our garnish plate and, to our surprise, bean sprouts were pleasant (I though they were out?). We began to eat our pho, which admittedly tasted fairly good. Unfortunately, it was at that moment when one of the kitchen staff came out with a large cart and started collecting all the dirty dishware and glassware. Firstly, that ruined the ambiance in itself because it was such a long and arduous process to clear so many dirty tables. What made it worse was that she wasn't quiet about it either! She was just dropping bowls and plates and cutlery into plastic bins, letting it bang and clatter and make all kinds of noise. It completely destroyed any remaining dining experience. So, while Pot Au Pho was somewhat of an improvement over Pho 88 -- in that we actually go our food this time around, and the food was fairly tasty -- the service and the ambience of the restaurant were both quite sub-par. So sadly, after two attempts, I'm still looking for a high-quality pho restaurant in Mobile.
I am always greatly impressed with the quality of their pho! We consistently come here for pho and their wonderful boba. Their pho is even better during the colder months!
This place was so much better a year or so ago, but something happened . Someone please tell the cook what tempura is . A fried panko crusted , pre frozen shrimp is not acceptable and should not be dark brown with the texture of an eraser and inst tempura The herb plate with the basil and the sprouts , bring that when my pho comes out please . I should not have to hunt down straws , spoons and water . The most minimal effort put into food and service.
