I needed to get steel panels for a DIY roofing project. I ordered 39 - 15'4" panels from Athens Steel Building. A big reason for ordering from them is that they are close to my house (20 miles is close for here) and I needed delivery. I should've trusted my gut, the sales person Dan was impatient and cursory while taking my order, and went with my next choice. I guess he wasn't listening when I told him I have a small cattle gate. He explained that Athens Steel isn't really set up for delivery, but was more than happy to tack on a $200 delivery fee for a two person delivery team. I agreed and gave him my information and paid him. I got one guy with a 9' wide trailer that barely fit through the gate. Instead of unloading the panels and putting where I wanted them he tied them to a small crape myrtle then drove out to drag them off the trailer. My front lawn was badly rutted several inches deep in the process of maneuvering the trailer. When I called Dan I was told, "Sorry, you should've come and got it yourself." When asked about the $200 for 2 people he told me a bold faced lie about it taking 5 or 6 hours to load the trailer and drive all the way out to me. They were bundled together and obviously loaded by a fork lift. Just ridiculous!
I ordered a 24x30 with 10 foot walls, one 9x10 roll up door, two windows and one walk in door from athens steel building. Having owned a 32x30 with 12 foot walls, two 10x10 roll up doors and a walk in door that I bought from Mueller, I assumed the quality work be close to the same. I was out of town when the Athens Steel building was errected, and I was exstremly disapointed in the quality of the Athens steel building. The corner post on the Mueller were I beam, athens was c purlin, the Mueller had two perlins running horizonal on each wall, athens had one at 7'. The roll up doors were no comparison, the Mueller was solid to the point I could stand on the joints where it hinged, Athens was built like a coke can. It bent the firt time I put pressure on on of the joints pushing down to close to get the latch in place. Athens had no place to mount a breaker box, light switchs, or electrical outlets. Comparing the two building, Athens steel is poorly designed, and cheaply constructed. I paid 21K for the Athens biulding with adding a section of concrete 12 X 20. Paided 23K for the Mueller with an added section of concrete of 30x30. I would highly recomend to anyone to not purchase a Athens steel building.
