Dont go to him for contacts! I went in several times and tried several different prescriptions and it almost seemed like he was going down on my prescription, my eyes were so blurry I couldnt even read Road signs. After the fifth pair he was clueless and said would you like to just go back to your old script? I guess if thats all you have to offer. I would never recommend him to anyone!
We are sorry you felt you had a bad experience when visiting our office. Door County Eye Associates strives to help everyone seeking eyecare services. Sometimes insurance companies have a "narrow" network of providers and does not allow every doctor into their plan. Because of this our office is not contracted with every insurance company. For patients in this situation, payment is required at the time of service. We work hard to inform our patients about their insurance before services are rendered so that there are no surprises. We hope you are able to find the right office that accepts your insurance so that you may receive the eye care services you are seeking.

Very nasty and rude receptionist. I was appalled at how I was treated.
Dr. Paulsen is simply the best when it comes to eye care. I wear both glasses and contacts that Dr. Paulsen has written the prescriptions for, and I could not be happier with the results. The staff members are friendly and educated, and they will provide you with exceptional service. I have never felt so welcome at any other practice. They also have a great frame selection that will not disappoint!
Hi Mr. Massey, We are sorry for your frustration. Door County Eye Associates proudly works with the VA to provide eye exams to local veterans. The VA has strict rules about office visits that we must follow in order to bill an appointment. If a veteran does not request prior approval from the VA and present an authorization number at the time of the visit, we are not allowed to bill the VA. In those cases, we offer to bill private insurances (such as commercial or Medicare) so that the patient does not have to pay the full visit fee. This process is completely dictated by the VA and as a participating community provider, we must follow their rules. This means that you cannot come to the office for an eye emergency and have the visit covered by the VA unless you call them first to get an authorization number. There is no additional paperwork involved in VA claims, the VA makes the process quite easy as long as the patient requests prior approval. Again, we are sorry for your frustration. The team at DCEA

I have been a patient with Dr. Paulson for over 20 years and he has been awesome. He was the one who (years ago) discovered my CRVO emergency and arranged for me to see an ophthalmologist in Green Bay that very day. However after a recent Covid-related visit, the front office refused to accept my VA coverage even though it had been preapproved by the VA. Granted there is a little more paperwork involved so they sent the claim to Medicare instead. Then came the threatening collection statements. In the future I will reluctantly seek another optician that is more Veteran supportive. What a sad way to end what has heretofore been a great relationship.
