This place is honestly disgusting. The food is loaded with salt. They are not accommodating of people with allergies. Everything has a very weird taste.
If you want some hummus GO! Otherwise skip this restaurant. Insanely good hummus. Unfortunately followed up by subpar dishes that were one note. The pork and chorizo were dry and the foccacia was boring. Avec needs to step up it's food a lot to match the price tag.
Fantastic meal in a lovely communal dining space. I've gone several times before and have always had an excellent time. Pro tip: come by on Tuesday nights for half off bottles of wine! The charred sepia was absolutely delicious with a great balance of acidity and spiciness. The tripe and beans were very hearty and paired excellently with the focaccia bread. However, I felt the accompanying tahini was a bit boring - the dish would have benefitted from a more vibrant accompanying sauce. Overall, avec remains a stellar Chicago restaurant and one that I look forward to frequently returning!
Food is decent, but hard to justify coming here when Aba is just two blocks away and does almost everything better and at a similar price (and isn't stingy with their pita bread either). I guess its a good alternative since reservations are usually pretty easy to get.
