I have used TaxCalc with success for many years. However, the 2019 version failed to save 3 days work. On speaking to support, apparently if you enter too many capital gains transactions it is a 'known issue' that from then on, nothing will be saved. Unfortunately this issue was not known to me and there is no warning about this within the software. I have no idea when I will find the time and the patience to start again on the completion of three complicated tax returns. I will not trust this flaky software with my time and data in the future.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Downloaded the Taxcalc MTD Excel VAT Filer, paid 20. Tried installing it 4 times and it crashed each time. Kept telling me "execution failed: unexpected exit code." Went straight to Quickbooks, installed their VAT filer, worked like a dream.

Awful software solution, supposedly easy to use and quick, but the complete opposite! Mis-sold by sales staff on the phone - once we'd paid for the initial product, then told we had to upgrade to submit as a single company, then can only submit to Companies House not HMRC, so we then had to upgrade yet again to submit tax. Rubbish. Want to digitally sign? - that costs extra (there's 1 free, but if that's declined you have to buy more in bulk). Want to download your HMRC report? - that an extra license and costs more. And when it comes to submit to HMRC - it doesn't work and fails. Useless - Avoid!
