This has always been our favorite Chinese restaurant for many years. Its been a while since weve been back so we were excited to bring our out of town guests to have dinner. We were disappointed. There must have been a change in cooks or recipes. Starting with the egg rolls. I have never liked egg rolls from any other restaurant. The ones from Forbidden City have been fresh and crisp. The ones we had tasted as though they were precooked or leftover. The wonderful crisp, light, fried wontons from the past were always a delight. The ones served today were thick, very little filling compared to size of the wrappers. ( I believe egg roll wrappers and not wonton wrappers were used. ) I ordered Mandarin Shrimp. What a disappointment! The breading on the shrimp was thick and a bit doughy. The ginger beef was so sweet it was not palatable. The only redeeming part of the meal was the crab cheese and the Szechuan chicken. I dont think we will return again.
Best part of the meal was the appetizers. The forbidden city chicken was flavorless with no spice in it even though it's classified as spicy. The fried rice wasn't good either. I've had better fried rice from the freezer section at Walmart. The shrimp and noodles was a disappointment as well, it was just shrimp and spaghetti noodles. Definitely not going back again. So save your money and go someplace else.
Unfortunately our dinner was very disappointing. We had shrimp fried rice, generals chicken, egg rolls and crab rangons. From excessive amount of breading on the chicken to shells still on the shrimp and very plain fried rice. We will not be back again.
