I thought they were legitimate because they had a physical branch at my campus. This is true, but the scholarship services are not worth the hundred dollars they charged. I could have found all of the scholarships using free aggregators and there was no ease to applying for them. Save your money and join the real honor societies when you become a junior.
NSCS doesn't do much for me except look decent on my resume. Most scholarships are not applicable for me, and I wish I would have looked more into it before paying their rates. Try signing up for campus honors societies first before signing up for NSCS to see if it is what you want.
NSCS is a great organization! Not only did they help me refine my leadership but they also bring the best out of all of their members. The NSCS staff at HQ is very friendly and helpful. Don't ever hesitate to join!
So far I am not impressed with The National Society of Collegiate Scholars. I paid my $95 "one time fee" and a few months later I started getting e-mails stating if I want a better chance to get scholarships I need to pay $58 more. I am OK with just the one time fee of $95 or so to buy a title on a resume, but I have not seen any real benefit from being in this group. Thank you NSCS for the title on my resume.
