Hi Liam, Can I ask where you visited us and at what time? I'd like to see if I can find what's gone wrong. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your food as much as you used too. We have had to make changes over the ten years as all businesses have too. Our chips haven't been hand cut for years now (about 7 years). Unfortunately for the quantity we serve it's just not cost effective. The staff cost is our single biggest cost and the time to cut chips by hand means that the customer just wouldn't be willing to pay the price for them. The fish we use currently I would say is the best quality we've ever had. We now buy much larger fish and cut it to size ourselves after having inconsistent portions from the suppliers. Our fish now consistently weighs these same but is thicker and generally much more preferred. It means we aren't taking smaller fish from the sea and instead giving the fish a chance to live a longer life and I believe makes it a better quality product. It's also now only line caught fish we use and it's got a much better texture. I'm glad you thought our prices were cheaper, however they are not. Out prices have had to increase year on year due to VAT, staff costs and fish prices. We've never received a 2 star review and it's extremely upsetting, however as mentioned we have had to evolve in order to stay profitable, particularly with the challenges this year. If there is anything you think we could do to show you that we're still worthy of a decent review then please let me know. As a small business we rely massively on reviews.

Always loved the fish and chips from this van until the other night. The hand cut chips are clearly no longer being produced and the fish seemed cheaper and poor quality. The prices were cheaper but I would much prefer to pay more for higher quality. I was extremely disappointed and hope it reverts back to the previous quality

Hi Peter, I'm sorry you aren't enjoying the chips as much lately. We have had to change our chips due to new food regulations. We now need to negate any acrymalide we may produce in our food (any black/brown starch when it comes to chips). Therefore we have had to change our potato variety. Unfortunately there's nothing we can do about that other than keep trying different varieties which we have done. Other than that, nothing at all has changed, everything including the oil is exactly the same. I'm devastated that after being a regular customer for what sounds like quite a while that you felt the need to leave us a 2* review rather than messaging us privately. We love nothing more than engaging with our customers and we've noticed that the trend just lately is that customers will use you for years and be extremely happy, but not leave you a good review, than after one not so good experience they are prepared to leave you a bad one. It's extremely disheartening and hard to not take personally. I appreciate the feedback on the service and thankyou for that and will pass it on. I would be grateful if you could email me on [email protected] with the date and time you went to the van and I will do my best to try and see if there's anything we can do to improve on things. We always take constructive feedback and thank you for that. However it can't mask how absolutely gutted I am to have received a 2* review from what has been a happy customer for many times previously. Kind regards

I think the chips have gone down hill since you came back after the 1st lockdown? Not sure if you changed the oil brand??? Definitely nowhere as good, I use too visit lowdham every Wednesday without fail but now not so much , fish always excellent for me but my son had one 2 weeks ago and when he got home he through it in bin as was swimming in grease/fat Staff are great though and always got a smile for you

Wow, Tom and Simons Kitchen is honestly the best fish and chips I have eaten. Food freshly made to order and it sure shows. The batter is always lovely and crispy just how it should be in my opinion. Staff are very friendly and helpful with portion sizes. If you're in the area of there location they are definitely worth a try!

My colleague booked these for a company event. The staff were professional and friendly and the food was top notch. The fish was really fresh. We had deckchairs and ice cream too and with the cloud and windy weather we could definitely have been on the seafront. Would definitely recommend.
